College Essay On College Stress

In conformity with the American National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders, only one-third of those who had tension receive qualified psychological help. There are two reasons for it. Either parent does not suspect that a teenage child might experience stress and its consequences, or children are afraid to talk with adults about their problems. Statistics on child tension in Europe is also disappointing. About 40% of girls and the same number of boys experienced at least one serious stressful situation in their lives. Behind every “dry” percentage of statistics are the lives of adolescents. 6% of boys and almost 15% of adolescent girls were forced to undergo specialized treatment in connection with this. Adolescence is most critical in terms of tension and nervous breakdowns since all feelings are aggravated, nerves are tense, every frustration provokes a breakdown.

Adults experience stress from work and all the responsibilities that they must perform. Adolescents do not have to perform many duties, however, it does not mean that many students are not experiencing tension. The fact is that many sophomore year kids are stressed. This happens when they fall into dangerous (clashes with hooligans), complex (interaction with a strict teacher) and painful (loss of a loved one) situations. Parents should help teenagers to cope with this. Tension increases, because unlike adults, adolescents do not have the resources necessary to cope with such situations. As a first step, it is necessary to identify possible sources of stress.

One important source of tension can be the school life of adolescents. School demands that put pressure on adolescents, as well as the disappointment from low grades and unfinished homework – all these can consume a large part of the teenage energy.  The school is a major source of stress. It is established that children in the school are in a state of chronic emotional, informational, sensorimotor, near vegetative and psychogenic tension, exhausting the sympathetic-adrenal system. This is especially true for right-brain children with poor academic performance. The training focused on left hemisphere thinking, competition, fear and negative emotions inevitably leads to stress, which is the psychophysiological reaction of the organism to the effect of the environment, which goes beyond the limits of the adaptive norm.

The constant threat of punishment for erroneous responses and actions contributes to tension. The situation with children in elementary school can be described as follows. Many children, especially in the first weeks and months of training, have such changes in the body that allow talking about “school shock.” This is due to order, and perfection demanded from pupils. During stress, there is a violation of interhemispheric interaction, which is the main reason for “forgetting” information on examinations. This is especially true in the lessons of teachers of an authoritarian-suppressive type.

Numerous studies have shown the following picture. The chronic impact of tension dramatically inhibits the development of the child’s brain. During stress, development and myelination of the nerve pathways occur only in the survival centers, while the development of the nerve structures in the limbic system and the neocortex is limited. The constant impact of tension leads to the follows. Nervous activity is concentrated mainly in the right hemisphere and brainstem, in the sympathetic nervous system. The remaining areas of the brain, especially the frontal lobe of the left hemisphere, can be partially blocked. During stress, special chemicals elements are released. Being necessary to reduce pain, they destroy brain cells, especially the hippocampus of the limbic system, directly involved in learning and memorizing. For example, it can be an adrenaline neurotransmitter. Standing out during stress, it activates the body to fight or escape.

In an emotionally stressful situation, it becomes impossible to scan the pages of the page from top to bottom and from left to right.During the reflex response to stress, the eye becomes peripheral. The field of visual perception is maximized. During constant stress, the external muscles of the eyes become strong, and the internal muscles become weak and stretched. This reflex of peripheral vision was formed during evolution. It serves as a protective reaction during the time of danger. In addition, information and emotional tension cause the Achilles tendon defense reflex, which helps to reduce the calf and flounder-prominent muscles, straighten and retract knees. This transfers the center of gravity of the body to the socks and strains the back and neck. This reflects also has evolutional meaning. The significance of this is to quickly jump up and run away at the moment of danger, without wasting time on a contraction of muscles. However, the tension of the back for a long time leads to a decrease in the inflow of cerebrospinal fluid into the brain and reduces its physiological activity.

How to avoid this? Initially, parents, students, and teachers should teach the importance of the calm mode of learning deprived of pressure from the side. Success in school depends on the teachers. They may be too liberal with students or too strict, constantly caring or busily detached, meticulous in detail or democratic. Teachers define a lot in real life of children. But one person does not determine the fate of the student, his life success or failure. And the school with all its importance is not the main place in the life of the child. Child family

has its own role in the learning process. It can make a beginner schoolchild happier. College kids often complain about the high workload that also provokes stress situations.  As a result, they get tired, often sick. Sometimes fatigue is the result of an incorrect distribution of energy and time. Estimates also cause constant tension. Many schoolchildren live in fear of a bad mark, they perceive it not as an assessment of their work, but as a kind of stigma. Often an occasion for children’s anxiety is given by parents themselves. They dramatize the situation, and as a result, children begin to believe that they will never be able to learn good enough that their parents are happy with them. Moreover, it may happen with every unique the individual. Even the most inquisitive and attentive child sometimes does not cope with the task. And this does not mean that he is a bad student. Such a slight, but very important difference must be felt by the parents themselves. They should evaluate the task, but not a kid.

Another cause of stress can be resentment from classmates. This happens in different schools, regardless of their prestige, location, and level of teaching. The reason for ridicule can be any little thing: glasses, “not that” hair color, high or low height, too tight complexion or a quiet voice. The psychology of the adolescent is specific. Any moral trauma takes on a universal scale. From the age of 12 in the body of a teenager, there are stormy changes against the background of physical ailments and moral suffering. At this time children need psychological help from adults.  They should teach how to cope with irritation, emotions, and ailment. The proper tactful help of adults will help the child to form as a person, not to close oneself, not to get stuck and not to think up various phobias. Girls may plague themselves with diets. Boys suffer from high or small growth or awkwardness, although in fact, natural processes occur in their organisms. Increased suspiciousness makes the child take on his account any troubles in school and at home. These can be overloads, stresses, conflicts with classmates, misunderstanding of parents and teachers. All this adds stress to the lives of children.

For a gentle teen mentality, it is dangerous to be in stress for too long. Scientists have proved that the constant stresses of adolescents lead to a weakening of immunity, frequent illnesses in adulthood, and deterioration of mental health. The sooner parents recognize the stress of a teenager, the less likely that it will grow into depression.
